In celebration of his life that ended way too short recently, Lola’s Trailer Park (2735 W 5th St, 817-759-9100) will host a jam 2-5pm Sun. “Tim loved to sit around with his friends and jam,” the online invitation says, “so if you want to bring a guitar, or a drum, or a kazoo, a maraca, a washboard, or anything that will make a musical noise … we’ll have [a] jam to remember all the great nights Tim spent all night jamming with his friends at his house.” ....

As a producer and engineer, as well as the drummer for power pop outfit Siberian Traps, Wierenga’s unique Frisian surname appears in small print on dozens of local records. Two weeks ago, however, his name (at least his first) appeared across the front of an album for the first time. Under the name Pete and the Crying Teeth, Wierenga has just released a new EP. The single “Jan 6th, 2021” captures the artist’s stunned disbelief at what unfolded and notes the utter hypocrisy of the domestic terrorists’ actions with lyrics such as: “Kaepernick just took a knee.” Is your New Year’s resolution to learn the guitar? If so, here is your chance to get lessons from Dallas’ finest musicians. Jess Garland is adding seven new music classes that begin in February. These additional classes are presented by the South Dallas Cultural Center and include beginner guitar, intermediate/advanced guitar, songwriting and voice. Classes will be taught by Garland and other local musicians such as Emsy Robinson Jr., Kierra Gray, Kate Fisher and Lala J. Those interested are encouraged to sign up through Garland’s nonprofit Swan Strings. ....

Collage by Patrick Higgins One day, when we look back on the unholy year that has been 2000 and 10 times two, the cataloguing of unbearable tragedies, atrocities, and absolute insanities that we’ve all somehow endured this year will read more like CliffsNotes exposition from a clichéd dystopian young adult novel rather than actual historical text. Sadly, in real life, there appears to be no precocious yet aloof and mysterious female lead armed with elite and useful skills to lead us out of pending Armageddon anywhere on the horizon. ....
