Beloved bush poet Andrew “Banjo” Paterson, creator of The Man from Snowy River and Clancy of the Overflow, died 80 years ago.

Mr. Andrew Barton Paterson, better known throughout Australia as “Banjo” Paterson, died at a private hospital, in Sydney, yesterday afternoon, after about a fortnight’s illness.
Mr. Paterson was a prolific writer of light topical verse. His ballads of the bush had enormous popularity. He was in his 77th year.
“Banjo” Paterson was born at Narrambla, and passed his earliest years at Buckinbah, near Obley, on an unfenced block of dingo infested country leased by his father and uncle from the Crown. When he was six, the family moved to Illalong, a day’s ride from Lambing Flat diggings, where Young now stands. ....

Thomson Resources Ltd(ASX: TMZ) share price is rocketing higher today, up 38.4% to 18 cents in late morning trade.
This follows the company’s market update today on its activities for the December 2020 quarter.
What did Thomson Resources report?
Minerals explorer Thomson Resources today reported the advancement of its precious and base metals projects in Queensland and New South Wales.
Thomson advised it has completed due diligence at the Hortons Gold Project near Tenterfield, New South Wales. It’s acquiring the project from Syndicate Minerals, a private company. According to the release, Hortons has “multiple intrusion related gold targets across multiple prospects” for future drilling. ....

More than $2.5 million in funding has been allocated to Northern Rivers organisations by the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund.
The funding, announced by the NSW Government, will offer support for local parks and reserves, showgrounds, caravan parks, state parks, commons, weed and pest control, bushfire prevention, tracks and trails maintenance plus other projects.
 
The full list of local organisations managing crown land who received funding in this round were:
• Alstonville Agricultural Society - $97,746 for the construction of new grandstands, the installation of a rodeo arena and modifications existing stands.
• Ballina Jockey Club Ltd - $27,995
• Bonalbo Showground Land Manager - $92,329 ....

Fixing vital road would have 'significant benefits'

An essential cross border road in the Tenterfield Shire will hopefully be fully sealed, with the backing of government funding.
Lismore MP Janelle Saffin said she was working with the Tenterfield Shire Council to ensure sealing the final 7.11-kilometre gravel section of Mount Lindesay Road is achieved.
Ms Saffin said she is pushing to get the project more economic stimulus funding to help local communities recover from the impacts of drought, bushfires and the ongoing challenges of COVID-19.
There are significant cross-border tourism benefits which would flow from having a fully sealed road link between Tenterfield, the birthplace of Federation, and Brisbane and surrounds, Ms Saffin said. ....
