The Nigeria Army operation against Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Marte, Borno State, left several insurgents dead.
Last week, ISWAP invaded a military base in Dikwa. After an initial withdrawal, ground and air forces rallied to repel the sect members.
The insurgents then took over Marte after chasing residents away. Many fled to parts of Maiduguri, the state capital.
On Sunday, Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Attahiru issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the recapture of Marte and adjoining villages.
The joint operation was executed by Troops of Sector 1, Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole, and Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
