Councils began discussing plans for a strategic lorry route to avoid Halstead back in February last year. It was hoped the plans would see HGVs diverted away from the town after numerous complaints from residents. Lorries often travel along the A131 through Halstead between Braintree and Sudbury. Head Street is a pinch-point with large vehicles sometimes finding it difficult to navigate the narrow road and mini-roundabouts causing traffic problems, leading to gridlock. Residents say they are often left with large lorries and trailers just inches away from their front doors, leading to concerns over the health impact of exhaust fumes. ....
PLANS to bring a coronavirus vaccine centre to Halstead remain in doubt after contradicting reports. Residents in the Halstead area will have to travel to Earls Colne in order to get their jabs after it was confirmed the Pump House Surgery in the village is the area’s primary vaccine centre. With the Earls Colne Centre opening last Thursday, residents in Halstead and villages such as Sible Hedingham raised concerns about the distance vulnerable residents would be forced to travel to get the vaccine. Some residents were left hoping for a centre to open in Halstead to spare vulnerable residents travelling the long distances. ....
WORK to help prevent flooding on two roads is underway after pressure from councillors. Concerns over the safety of Sloe Hill and Foxborough Hill near Halstead have been raised numerous times by residents. The roads are prone to flooding which poses a danger to drivers. Matters are made worse in the winter months with poor lighting and visibility and the prospect of ice making the roads treacherous. Complaints by residents resulted in Halstead area councillors calling for action. Jo Beavis, who is a district and county councillor wrote to Essex County Council leader David Finch calling to work to be done on the road. ....
CONCERNED councillors are calling on highways bosses to take action to make flood-prone roads less dangerous this winter. Fears have been raised over the safety of Sloe Hill, between Halstead and Gosfield, and Foxborough Hills in Sible Hedingham. The unlit roads are both prone to flooding, which can lead to treacherous ice when it freezes. There are also blind bends and potholes. Now councillors are appealing to Essex County Council to take action before anyone is hurt. The call is being led by Hedingham councillor Jo Beavis and Halstead councillor Jackie Pell. Mrs Beavis has written to Essex County Council calling for road lighting, flood warning signs, suitable gritting during winter and a resolution to the flooding. ....
