Many Bowdoin students left behind by age-based vaccine rollout – The Bowdoin Orient

Despite Maine’s relatively efficient rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine the state is currently ranked tenth nationally in percentage of the population that has been fully vaccinated the state’s transition to an age-based distribution plan has placed many Bowdoin students at the end of the line, resulting in a sense of uncertainty, disappointment and a scramble to find alternate solutions.
At least 37 states are prioritizing individuals with underlying health conditions for vaccination. Other states that have recently adopted an age-based plan, including Connecticut and Rhode Island, still have provisions allowing those with certain health conditions to advance to an earlier spot in the vaccine line. ....

It was an emotional day for Margot Schmolka. It began with a morning drive from New Hampshire to deliver her daughter Corey back to campus, under circumstances that could scarcely be more different from the start of the spring semester last year. “The whole process went very smoothly,” she said.
Corey Schmolka ’23 was one of around 1,100 students welcomed back to campus on Friday and Saturday. The operation was run with impressive precision and coordination thanks to the efforts of Bowdoin staff, many of whom were volunteers.
First stop for returning Polar Bears was Farley Field House, where Melissa Quinby and Michael Pulju from the Office of the Dean of Students were among those on parking lot duty Friday afternoon. “As well as welcoming students back, we make sure they’re wearing a mask and that they’ve completed their Campus Clear symptoms checker to confirm they’re in good health,” said Quinby. “We also check they h ....

A former New Hampshire police chief who has spoken out publicly in support of victim rights has been selected as the next independent compliance overseer for St. Paul’s School in Concord.
Donald Sullivan has been a member of law enforcement for over 20 years, and has been the police chief for the towns of Alexandria and Hill. Sullivan has experience in victim-centered, trauma-informed enforcement, investigation and prosecution of sexual assault and domestic violence cases. ....
