ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet Monday constituted a three-member committee to probe the Broadsheet LLC scandal, as the controversy surrounding the scandal has deepened, with the government ministers and the opposition PML-N locked in a fierce slanging match.
Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the federal cabinet meeting here. The committee will be led by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz and comprise Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry and Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari.
The committee has been directed to furnish its recommendations within 48 hours. The committee has been given the task to review Pakistan’s agreement with Broadsheet LCC for the period 2002-2018, sources informed Geo News. ....

FIA Exposes the Culprits Behind Artificial Oil Shortage in Pakistan
The parliamentary panel met on Thursday with Rehman Malik in the chair.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General, and Secretary Petroleum, gave a detailed briefing to the Committee on the artificial shortage of oil, regarding the failure of the concerned departments to control corruption and hoarding by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), which caused inconvenience all over the country in July 2020.
The officials informed that FIA had detected that the top 12 oil importers were directly involved in creating an artificial shortage and made illegal money in connivance with some functionaries. ....

ISLAMABAD: After a number of harassment cases in educational institutions in the recent years, a parliamentary committee on Tuesday cleared a bill to pave the way for legislation to protect students from harassment.
The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education, which met with Senator Engineer Rukhsana Zuberi, cleared the ‘Protection against Harassment of Students in Educational Institutions Bill 2020’.
The mover of the bill, Senator Javed Abbasi, informed the meeting that the bill seeks to ensure provision of education in a safe environment in educational institutions. At present, there is no criminal law to register such cases which causes unnecessary delay in proceedings, he added. ....

ISLAMABAD: Former deputy speaker of National Assembly and senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Haji Nawaz Khokhar was laid to rest on Sunday. Funeral prayers of Haji Nawaz Khokhar was offered in Rawalpindi on Sunday, attended by politicians, prominent personalities and large number of people. Haji Nawaz Khokhar passed away in Islamabad late night on Saturday (January 9) after a prolonged illness. His younger brother Imtiaz Khokhar, known as Taji Khokhar died on January 6. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived at the residence of Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar to condole with him on his father s death. ....
