Vinyl Vault An Elegant Evening Share The Vinyl Vault changes it up with elegance! Actually, the Vinyl Vault is always elegant, but this week it’s slightly moreso as we present George Shearing and Mel Torme and their 1986 album, “An Elegant Evening.” By 1986, Shearing and Torme were at the height of their musical powers but also had years of experience and they brought it all to bear on this session. The program is a combination of jazz standards and some original compositions by both men. This session was not the first time Shearing and Torme had recorded together. In fact, this was the fourth album together on Concord Records. The first two won Grammys and the third was a Grammy nominee. So the pressure was on for this fourth session to exceed or at least equal those prior dates.
