A walk through the alleys of central Seoul s Euljiro neighborhood led a foreign professor on a musical journey.
Andrew Wilbur, an associate professor at Seoul National University originally from the U.S., found his way to some of the area s older record shops, where he picked up a number of mysterious vinyl records from several decades in Korea s past.
Some of them had little information about the artists, and while a number were full of instrumental covers of pop hits of the 60s and 70s, others seemed to feature original compositions on electric organs, Wilbur, who together with his wife Laura Francescangeli runs an indie record label and hosts a podcast, both named Extra Noir, told The Korea Times. Marianne Faithfull: 'I was in a dark place. Presumably it was death'

Last modified on Fri 15 Jan 2021 07.23 EST
Marianne Faithfull is on the phone from her home in Putney, south-west London. She sounds exactly like you would expect: as husky as her singing on every album she has made for the past 40 years and, as the daughter of a baroness, very posh. Her vocabulary is unmistakably that of someone who came of age in the 1960s: exasperation is expressed in sentences that begin: “Oh,
man…”; things that vex her are “a drag”. But before we begin, she offers a pre-emptive apology. Her memory, she says, isn’t what it was. “It’s wild, the things I forget,” she says. “Short-term. I remember the distant past very well. It’s recent things I can’t remember. And that’s ghastly. Awful. You wouldn’t believe how awful it is.” ....

Say the word Apple today and we think of Steve Jobs multi-billion-dollar technology company that spawned the iPhone and the Mac computer.
But a decade before the California-based firm was even founded, the Beatles-owned company Apple Electronics was working on several pioneering inventions – some of which were precursors to commonly available products on the market today.
Apple Electronics was led by Alexis Mardas, a young electronics engineer and inventor originally from Athens in Greece, known to the Beatles as Magic Alex.
He died on this day in 2017, aged 74, and was one of the most colourful and mysterious characters in the Beatles story.   ....
