Comal County staffers are still signing up those requesting COVID-19 vaccines â the problem is, there are now more vaccines than requests, and officials are working to make sure no doses go unused. For the second straight week Cheryl Fraser, county public health director, reported vaccinations of several who hadnât signed up for inoculations â all in an effort not to waste vaccines. âWeâre not turning any one away, but weâre not really advertising that,â she said. âWeâre trying to get past these second-dose clinics; we might have to take a different approach to how weâre doing it.â ....
As COVID-19 active cases remain steady, Comal County commissioners enthusiastically approved agreements with San Antonio nursing schools whose students have played a critical role in county COVID-19 vaccinations. âWe couldnât have done it without them,â said Cheryl Fraser, public health director, prior to county agreements formalizing relationships with Alamo Collegesâ St. Phillipâs College and Galen Health Institutes Inc., parent of Galen College of Nursing. âWith these mass clinics weâre doing we need approximately 50 to 60 students to administer up to 2,000 vaccines a day,â Fraser said. âWeâve talked to several local colleges for students to do their clinical hours at the site (New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center).â ....
The man died at a New Braunfels hospital on March 28, officials said. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the county moved slightly higher with 22 new cases and 11 recoveries. Of the new cases, nine are confirmed and 13 are probable. The county now has 195 active cases, with eight of those cases hospitalized. Comal County hospitals reported caring for 19 COVID-19 patients on Monday â up from the 13 reported on Friday. Five of those patients are in intensive care and three are on ventilators. Local hospitals are caring for a mix of local and remote patients and some county patients may be hospitalized elsewhere. ....
Comal Countyâs public health department is doing its part to spread the COVID-19 vaccine around to areas that may be having difficulty getting it. On Friday, officials said the department has transferred more than 2,000 doses to different providers across the county. âIn an effort to help our neighbors, Public Health has transferred small quantities of vaccines to local pandemic vaccine providers,â said Comal County Public Health Director Cheryl Fraser. âWe want to make sure that all vaccine gets into arms as soon as possible and that everyone who wants a vaccine has a chance to receive one.â Officials said the department transferred vaccines to providers in Spring Branch, Bulverde, Canyon Lake and Schertz. ....
