PIB: Bayelsa Government Seeks Closer Working Relationship With Fouding Fathers


…Urge Them To Be Vocal On Restructuring, Urban Renewal
Bayelsa State Government has called on its founding fathers and elders to be more vociferous in their support of the struggle for restructuring of the country and passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Governor Douye Diri, who made the call on Monday during the quarterly meeting of the Bayelsa Elders Council, also urged them to support his administration’s ongoing urban renewal program to give Yenagoa, the state capital, a befitting look.
Declaring the meeting open at the Niger Delta Wetlands Centre in Yenagoa, the Governor restated the state government’s preparedness to identify with any worthy cause aimed at addressing the injustice and imbalances in the body politic of Nigeria. ....

Diri: Only Justice, Equity Can End Clamour for Self Determination

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has said only justice and equity for every section of Nigeria would bring an end to the clamour for self-determination in the country.
Senator Diri stated this yesterday when members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by its President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenagoa.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, said the governor expressed concern over the level of insecurity in some parts of the country, describing it as alarming.
He said: “The current spate of insecurity in the country is alarming. And, of course, Nigeria has no reason to disintegrate. ....

Diri, monarchs, youths demand better federal presence in Bayelsa

Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, on Monday, joined traditional rulers, youths and other key stakeholders to demand a better presence of Federal Government in order to fast track overall development of the state.
The stakeholders made the call during a special town hall meeting organised by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources in conjunction with the state government at the Chief Harold Dappa Biriye Conference Centre in Yenagoa.
They called on the Federal Government to revisit the abandoned federal secretariat and housing projects among other federal infrastructure lacking in the state.
In their presentation, chairman of the Central Zone, Ijaw Youth Council, Clever Inodu, and the council’s spokesman, Ebilade Ekerefe, stressed that constructive engagement of the youths was vital to sustaining the peace and security in the Niger Delta. ....
