Degree instrumental in medical lab career success

A USC Medical Laboratory Science graduate has been promoted from technician to scientist at Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) within months of gaining both her associate degree and a Bachelor of Biomedical Science.
“I’ve just received an offer to join the GCUH haematology/transfusion department as a scientist,” said a delighted Chelsea Gillett, 24, formerly of Buderim.
Chelsea, who attended her USC Sunshine Coast graduation ceremony for both degrees in April, has been working at the hospital since January, when she was selected for one of 12 positions with the Pathology Queensland graduate program.
Three other positions in the statewide Pathology Queensland program for 2021 went to graduates of the two-year USC Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, designed to fast-track students into careers as technicians. ....

Coronavirus Qld update: Two new locally acquired cases detected overnight

A third case was diagnosed in hotel quarantine.
There is no risk at all to the public from the two new cases, Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said.
When they went into home quarantine they tested negative. They have now tested positive, Dr Young said.
We have gone and done some further work and they had no public exposure sites.

QLD records two new cases as Sunshine Coast University Hospital staff isolated
Queensland has recorded two new cases of local transmission. It comes as ten hospital staff from Sunshine Coast University Hospital have been forced into 14-day quarantine after saving the life of a COVID-19 infected patient.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced the state recorded two locally transmitted cases with one in hotel quarantine.
Ms Palaszczuk said there were no concerns as both of the new cases were close contacts of the Carindale daughter mentioned in Wednesday s numbers.
She continued to urge Queensland residents to check-in at all venues they visit, wear masks and come forward for testing. ....
