Couple killed in helicopter crash to be farewelled on Wednesday

A funeral for the couple killed in a helicopter crash north of Kaikōura is planned for the coming week.
Canterbury pilot Andrew Davidson, 60, and his wife Lin Chen were killed when their EC120 helicopter spiralled out of control and crashed as it came in to land at The Store cafe and campground at Kekerengu for lunch just before 1pm last Tuesday.
Their two children, along with a school friend, were seriously injured in the crash.
A service for the couple will be held in at Westpark Chapel in Christchurch on Wednesday 23 December, followed by a private cremation. ....

A report commissioned in 2009 is the basis for the Akersten Precinct, aimed at guiding urban growth, design and housing intensification.
Nelson s port and marina were built on reclaimed land, which juts out into the Nelson Haven on the city s front doorstep.
A summary of the 2009 report noted that Nelson s identity has been forged through its connection to the sea, since initial settlement by Māori and subsequent settlement by the New Zealand Company in the 1840s.

Over the years land just to the north of the city has been reclaimed as the town and the port have grown, with substantial areas of port land created in the 1950s to the 1970s. ....

The wreckage of the helicopter that crashed on a beach north of Kaikōura on Tuesday has been removed from the site.
Canterbury couple Andrew Davidson and his wife Lin Chen died in the crash while their two children, along with a schoolfriend were seriously injured.

Initial site investigations were carried out yesterday before the helicopter was removed late yesterday and taken to Wellington for further examination.

The helicopter had travelled from Christchurch and crashed into shallow water close to the beach at Kekerengu.
Police have confirmed the two people who died were Andrew Hamish Davidson, 60, and Lin Chen, 39, from Ohoka north of Christchurch.
The family of the couple have asked for privacy.
The three children injured in the crash were in Wellington Hospital, with two in stable condition and the third in a serious condition in intensive care. ....

More than 80 percent of people surveyed on their summer holiday plans are aiming to travel around New Zealand this season.
And the results showed most will be taking to the road in a campervan.
The annual survey by the tourism booking and information platform (website and app), Campable, found Covid-19 was a bigger disruptor of winter plans than it was for the Christmas holiday season.
Of the people surveyed 58 percent said this summer presented a better opportunity to explore New Zealand than ever before. ....
