Here Are the Winners for the 25th Annual Webby Awards


The 2021 ceremony, hosted by Jameela Jamil, was dedicated to those who found innovative ways to use the internet to help people stay connected amid a grueling pandemic year. In that spirit, it’s no surprise the Webby Person of the Year distinction went to Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Other Special Achievement winners of note include Ava DuVernay (Film and Video Person of the Year), Stop AAPI Hate (Social Movement of the Year), Riz Ahmed (Best Actor), and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (general Special Achievement honoree).
This year, the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) also launched two new Special Achievement Awards. Pharrell Williams bagged the inaugural Webby Anthem Award for his groundbreaking work in pushing for racial equity in education and entrepreneurship. Yara Shahidi, meanwhile, received the inaugural Webby Advocate of the Year award. ....

Hope College Theatre Honored Nationally for “The Thanksgiving Play”
The Department of Theatre received a Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Award, and junior
Lisbeth Franzon of Whitehall was honored for Special Achievement in Stage Management
for her work on the play.  The two awards will be presented during a virtual ceremony
on Saturday, May 22.

Roy Wesley Leid Jr., 75, was born in Walla Walla to Roy W. and Patricia Hirsch Leid on May 25, 1945. His parents preceded him in death.
He attended 12 years of school at Waitsburg and two partial years in Pullman, graduating from WHS in 1963. He was a four-year letterman and attended the state track meet as a senior. After graduation, Wes attended Whitworth College, playing football his freshman year. He transferred to Central Washington (College) University the spring of his sophomore year to play football. He married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Anne Mantz, on Aug. 20, 1966. She joined him and supported him in all the adventures that followed. ....

.- Fans and admirers of the legendary Broadway icon Carol Channing may bid on one-of-a-kind pieces from her remarkable Southern California estate on Thursday, June 17 at 10 a.m. PDT. The live online-only sale will feature treasured Tony, Golden Globe and lifetime achievement awards, as well as Broadway memorabilia, stage-worn costumes and a personal collection of original Al Hirschfeld drawings. Proceeds from the sale will benefit her alma mater Bennington College and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
