Posted by scottsuhr on The Cedar Falls City Council has voted to allow the current mask mandate to expire at midnight Wednesday night. The mandate, which was first put into place on September 8 th, required anyone within city limits to wear a face covering in public settings when they could not remain six feet away from others. The City is reminding citizens that if they prefer to continue to wear a mask they can feel free to do so. They also acknowledge that private businesses, schools, universities, libraries, and organizations may still have their own mask mandates in place that need to be adhered to. ....
Dear Waterloo & Cedar Falls: End the Mask Mandate NOW [Opinion] The last roughly 14 months have presented us with many challenges. The COVID pandemic had been difficult for everyone. Heath, employment, feeling trapped, etc. During this time, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds took a lot of flack for not imposing a mask mandate in the state. She did, eventually, put one in place after the holidays when cases shot through the roof. In response to her delay in enforcing a mandate, many cities and/or counties imposed their own mandates. FOLLOW-UP Cedar Falls Mask Mandate Extended Until May 19th The race to vaccinate is underway, as President Biden announced that all U.S. adults will be eligible to receive the vaccine by April 19th. The current 7-day moving average of daily new cases (62,167) increased 8.4% compared with the previous 7 days. Here in Iowa, the Iowa Department of Public Health reports (as of Wed, April 7, 2021) 5,835 deaths in the state, up 337 from a month ago, and 383,337 people testing positive, an increase of just over 19,000 from March. All possibly attributed to that fact that we live in the #1 state in the U.S. with the fewest coronavirus restrictions that directly correlates to the 2nd highest Covid-19 death rate. ....
The CDC just ruled that people who are fully vaccinated can travel. As long as they are safe, and continue to adhere to the guidelines set in place. It s been a year since we first picked up our first pack of disposable masks, and the world is different. The first major holiday that was experienced in a COVID bubble was Easter. Now, this will be the second time many people will have to celebrate Easter under the shadow of the pandemic. Many churches have adapted to this difficult challenge, and several of them in the Cedar Valley continue to adhere to the CDC restrictions. ....
