Norwich independents react to Boris Johnson lockdown message


Mr Motta added: People have to open up again or it will be dire out there. We have noticed there are a lot more people around with the weather improving so we are looking forward to getting back to normality.

Alan Sabol, owner of the St Giles Pantry, is feeling optimistic after the Prime Minister s announcement and is lining up a batch of new products. 
He said: We are very excited and can t wait to open up fully again. As well as looking after our suppliers, we can t wait to get back to some sense of normality.  ....

Independent businesses in Norwich city centre are hopeful better days are on the horizon after more than a month of lockdown restrictions.
While footfall is generally down and staff numbers are reduced, artisan coffee shops and eateries continue to trade.
There s been enough people to stay open and to feel it is worthwhile, said Charles Barry, the general manager of Strangers Coffee House on Pottergate.

I can t put it more simply than that. This has been an really difficult year for a lot of businesses and I think we might lose some more independents in the coming months.
This year I ve had months where I ve paid my staff instead of myself. For the first time in ten years I m having to question whether I can afford to pay my staff a Christmas bonus. 
Such a small change in habit can have a massive difference. Even if it s just buying a bag of coffee beans or a gift card for an independent restaurant over a chain - it makes a massive difference. ....
