Essex County Council sits at County Hall, Chelmsford - Credit: Archant Residents for Uttlesford s two county councillors have joined Essex County Council s official opposition group. Councillors Paul Gadd and Mike Foley, representing Saffron Walden and Thaxted, formed an alliance with eight other independent and small party councillors bidding for a stronger say in decision-making at County Hall. With 10 members, the Non-Aligned Group is the largest opposition group against the council s Conservative leadership. The group will be led by Cllr Chris Pond from the Loughton Residents Association.

A NEW crop of councillors representing the Maldon district at county level have pledged to give it their all for the next four years. The seats for Southminster, Maldon, and Heybridge and Tollesbury were up for grabs at the Essex County Council elections on ‘Super Thursday’. After an exciting night, the Conservatives emerged with the majority, securing 52 seats countywide. However, they lost their Southminster seat to Independent candidate Wendy Stamp. Mrs Stamp, who is also district council leader for Maldon, said she was over the moon after winning with 3,131 votes.
