Senior judges of the High Court are grumbling over what they call a growing trend of being overlooked in appointments of heads of divisions.
Our investigations show that of the seven High Court divisions, four are being run by junior judges instead of senior ones, as it used to be in the past.
“Imagine these young judges are being made to head us who are mature and more experienced. Probably, the Principal Judge, who is equally young, is revenging on some of us, the seniors who competed with him for the same job,” one of the senior disgruntled judges who spoke on condition of anonymity, said last week. ....

The Book about Bangladesh | The Daily Star


When everything surrounding is so grey and gloomy due to the pandemic, publication of the book, Bangladesh and International Law (Routledge 2021) edited by Professor Mohammad Shahabuddin, brought some colors of joy, pride and excitement among the Bangladeshi law scholars who takes some sort of interest in international law. At least, for sure it was a moment to celebrate for those who have contributed to the project. The book also came at the time when Bangladesh is celebrating its 50
th anniversary of its independence, the very birth of which in 1971 had challenged, disrupted and reshaped many conventional doctrines of international law in a Cold War era; making the publication of this book with what we call a perfect timing ! It gives me pleasure to write few words about the book, about which the editor passionately tweeted, A collection of international law stories of suffering, solidarity, resilience, resistance, and success from the Global South  fascinating enough ....

Byabasaija blames prison crowding on DPP, Judiciary

The Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons service, Dr Johnson Byabashaija, has said the current congestion in prisons can only be blamed on the challenges facing the the criminal justice system in the Judiciary and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office.
Dr Byabashaija argues that the remedy of building other prison facilities is not a sustainable solution but the government should allocate more funds to the Judiciary and DPP to ensure that process of serving justice is expedited. ....

On December 8, Oliullah Noman, the executive editor of the newly established online Bengali news website,
Amar Desh UK, received an email from its host DigitalOcean. It started friendly enough – “Hi there” – but its contents were far from it. The email was a notice stating that an article on the website was “the subject of a notification of claimed copyright infringement” under the US law, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. DigitalOcean requested Amar Desh UK to take down the offending article from its website within three days or they “may disable access” to the webs ....
