Two incidents on Auckland s motorway network are set to cause chaos as traffic builds for the afternoon commute.
Waka Kotahi/NZTA sent alerts at around 3pm this afternoon warning of incidents on both the Southern and Northern Motorways.
One lane was blocked at the top of the Esmonde Rd northbound off-ramp on the Northern Motorway following a crash.
The lane was cleared by 3.35pm, but traffic was backed up and motorists were asked to take care. ....

There have been dramatic scenes involving armed police in central Auckland today, the latest in a series of gun-related incidents in the city.
Police confirmed this afternoon s drama was connected to a gun being fired at the luxury Sofitel Hotel last week - understood by the Herald to be gang-related.
A witness told the Herald they saw officers with guns drawn during the 3.45pm incident at the corner of Beaumont and Gaunt Sts. ....

Pilots grave concerns about aircraft laser strikes are going unheard by the relevant authorities as incidents mount.
That s according to New Zealand Air Line Pilots Association spokesperson Captain Tim Robinson who says his demands to ban high-powered lasers have been falling on deaf ears .
I don t want to put words in their mouth but they obviously doesn t think the risk is great enough and we certainly do, Robinson said.
We would hate to see a fatal accident, especially from a medium to large-size commercial airliner, because these lasers continue to illuminate aircraft. ....
