LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) A federal judge on Tuesday blocked an Arkansas law banning nearly all abortions in the state while she hears a challenge to its constitutionality.
U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker issued a preliminary injunction preventing enforcement of the law, which was set to take effect on July 28. The measure was passed this year by the majority-Republican Legislature and signed by GOP Gov. Asa Hutchinson. ....

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction Tuesday, blocking legislation recently passed in Arkansas that would have made nearly all abortions in the state illegal.
U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker wrote that the abortion ban was “categorically unconstitutional” because it restricts abortions prior to a fetus being considered viable.
She said that the plaintiffs in this case were likely to succeed on the merits of their argument that the law impacted pre-viability abortions.
The Arkansas law would restrict all abortions that would not be necessary to save the life of the mother, according to the Associated Press. No exceptions would be made for cases of rape or incest. ....
