Regional Telecommunications Review - South & East TAS Public Consultation

About this event
The Australian Government has appointed an independent committee to conduct a review into telecommunications in regional, rural and remote Australia.
The committee will hold a virtual public consultation on Wednesday, 11 August from 10am to 12pm (AEST) to hear from people living and working in Southern and Eastern Tasmania about telecommunications issues and opportunities in the region.
The committee is particularly interested to hear views on:
the reliability of local mobile and broadband services
the role of telecommunications during COVID-19 and natural disasters
the effectiveness of Government programs like the Mobile Black Spot Program
how telecommunications can support regional development ....

Gunnedah Shire to benefit from improved digital connectivity

Gunnedah Shire residents and businesses will soon have improved access to high-speed broadband, with a Gunnedah project being funded through the Federal Government’s Regional Connectivity Program (RCP).
Facilitated by Gunnedah Shire Council, the project will be delivered by Field Solutions Group (FSG), which secured more than $3.9 million in Commonwealth funding to improve broadband coverage across Gunnedah and surrounding villages.
FSG will provide high-speed broadband through a fixed wireless network, comprising of 10 greenfield 45 metre towers and two co-locations.
Mayor of Gunnedah Shire Cr Jamie Chaffey said improved digital connectivity will be game changing for both residents and industry. ....

Enhanced mobile telecommunication services for Bridgenorth and Liena

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to partner with the Federal Government and Telstra to improve Tasmania’s phone coverage as part of the most recent round of the $380 million national Mobile Black Spot Program.
This will see additional network infrastructure built to improve services for the communities of Bridgenorth, 22 kilometres north-west of Launceston, and Liena in the north-west of the state.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government wanted to increase the chance of success of these needed infrastructure upgrades and pledged contributions totalling $180,500 for the projects, of the total $690,900 build cost. We are pleased that our kickstart funding has helped to win the funding. ....

Boosting mobile coverage in regional and remote Australia
Regional and remote communities across Australia will benefit from new and improved mobile coverage under Round 5A of the Liberals and Nationals Government’s highly successful Mobile Black Spot Program.
Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education, Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie, today announced that the Government has committed $20.5 million to fund 67 new mobile base stations across Australia.
“This announcement brings the total number of base stations funded under our Mobile Black Spot Program to over 1,270 base stations, representing a total investment of over $875 million,” Minister McKenzie said.
“These base stations will improve coverage in disaster prone areas, along major transport corridors and trial new approaches to delivering coverage. ....
