Wellington.scoop.co.nz » Hard drive smashed by police now in Wellington Museum's collection

Wellington.Scoop report by Jem Traylen
It was at the twentieth stroke of the hammer that Wellington journalist Nicky Hager thought something must be amiss with the detective who was wielding it. He was standing in the basement of the Auckland High Court, as two police officers shone torches over a hard drive, while a third smashed it with a hammer. Hager recently donated the remains of the drive to Wellington Museum.
It was a strange and dramatic end to a drawn-out legal battle that ensued over documents seized in a police raid following the publication of his book “Dirty Politics”. The book concerned a dirty tricks campaign run out of the office of then prime minister John Key, through Cameron Slater’s notorious Whaleoil blog. ....
