McMullan Award honors Djukanovic for creative commitment to lifting others up


Growing up in Iowa as the daughter of Serbian immigrants, Tara Djukanovic entered Emory College four years ago with the goal of honoring the people whose sacrifices created her opportunities.
Beyond devoting herself to coursework, she also mentored fellow students through Residence Life, tutored Atlanta-area immigrants and refugees and even crafted a training program for the Liberian National Police.
The joy she felt with each effort confirmed for Djukanovic, who graduates with highest honors, that she should pursue a career focused on human rights advocacy. She starts Harvard Law School in the fall, armed with the unrestricted $30,000 that comes with earning the McMullan Award. ....

DECORAH, Iowa - President Jenifer K. Ward has announced the appointment of Ashley C. Benson to the newly created dean of student engagement position at Luther College. 
The dean of student engagement is part of an administrative reorganization designed to create an integrated, student-centric approach to all academic and co-curricular services. Reporting to newly appointed provost, Lynda A. Szymanski, Benson will join the Luther community on July 1. 
“I am delighted to welcome Dr. Benson to Luther College,” said Ward. “The search committee feedback, as well as the comments from our community, gave both me and Provost-Elect Lynda Szymanski confidence that we would be adding an energetic, student-focused and change-comfortable dean of student engagement to lead us in this new role within an integrated provost division. As we near a possible end to the COVID-19 pandemic and the spring 2021 semester, Binghamton University administration had a lot on their plate. However, in dealing with so many pressing issues, administrators often sought to place Pipe Dream in the middle of these problems rather than handling it themselves.
For starters, Pipe Dream staff were surprised to receive an email from BU President Harvey Stenger asking us to look into complaints regarding unsanitary living conditions for students in quarantine housing. While Pipe Dream has reported on such issues twice, the administration has not spoken out about these conditions, delegating all investigative and public relations work to our student news team rather than the administrators employed to do so. ....
