There are 15 MSPs representing the city eight SNP, four Labour, two Conservative and one Green. Only one of the original 1999 intake of MSPs remains in Glasgow. Nicola Sturgeon has been an ever present since the first parliament session. Six other SNP MSPs have been re-elected for another term, Bill Kidd, James Dornan, Bob Doris, Humza Yousaf, Ivan McKee and John Mason. Two Labour MSPs return on the list Anas Sarwar and Pauline McNeill, while Annie wells has been re-elected for the Conservatives and Patrick Harvie for the Greens. The history makers are Kaukab Stewart, who became the first woman of colour to be elected to Holyrood, winning Glasgow Kelvin, with her result being declared before tory MSP Pam Gosal was elected in the West of Scotland list. ....
It is common ground amongst the various political parties that the next Scottish Parliament must tackle recovery from the pandemic as a matter of priority. I have listened hard to Chamber members on the issues they believe need addressing and I’ll explore two of them – the burden of business rates in city centres and the challenges facing our airports. The question is: how much do the party manifestos reflect those issues? We know certain industries have been more heavily damaged than others. This week shops and hospitality businesses, which have had a torrid time, are reopening under continued constraints. Whilst we hope the predicted surge in consumer spending means they are as busy as they are allowed to be, what will not be so visible is the scale of debt many of those businesses are struggling to support. Do the parties have plans to help? ....

GLASGOW city centre could be transformed with mini parks, European-style plazas and pedestrian friendly streets under ambitious plans inspired by the Dutch city of Rotterdam. Architects are drawing together a post-Covid masterplan which aims to capitalise on the areas s rich history and culture and create more greenspace and amenities to encourage more people including families to live in the area. In the year the city is due to host the Cop26 climate conference, the environment will be front and centre to the plan - those behind it say public feedback shows there is widespread support for less cars in the city centre. ....
Support for Metro is huge step for Glasgow Just under two years ago the Glasgow Connectivity Commission published its conclusions on the future for transport. Last week one recommendation, to create a Glasgow Metro system, took a significant step forward. Publication of the Phase One report of the Scottish Government’s second Strategic Transport Projects Review confirmed that the Metro would be included and work would continue on the strategic business case. This is a victory for the Leader of Glasgow City Council, Councillor Susan Aitken, who set up the Glasgow Connectivity Commission and who has argued consistently for the Metro. ....
