Gregory Carmichael Designs a Lakeside Summer Home


For a vacation home situated on a secluded lake, designer Gregory Carmichael of
GCID sought to create a “stylish, welcoming, and multi-purpose family compound that would be enjoyed today and for generations to come.” And he did just that, for an empty nester couple who wanted a lake house getaway that doubled as a “gathering place on the site of the simple cabin where they spent summers raising their children.”
The final product is a 12,000-square-foot property that boasts three freestanding structures, which includes a rustic main house, a guest cabin that fits up to four people, and a whimsical beach house (which also sleeps four guests) meant for lakeside entertaining. ....

Court of Chancery Orders Production of Emails, Denies Production of Privileged Communications in Books and Records Action

In a post-trial opinion, Vice Chancellor Joseph R. Slights III granted a stockholder’s request to inspect directors’ nonprivileged electronic communications, including emails, concerning settlement negotiations for the purpose of investigating whether Facebook overpaid in the settlement to protect its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, from substantial personal liability.
In July 2019, in connection with a data breach, Facebook agreed to pay $5 billion to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in exchange for the release of claims against the company and Mr. Zuckerberg personally. Facebook stockholder Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island (ERSRI) sought books and records to investigate whether Facebook spent corporate assets to protect Mr. Zuckerberg. Faceb ....

CGRER Co-Directors to Speak at Hawkeyes Give Back: Combatting Climate Change (Virtual Event)


University of Iowa professors and CGRER Co-directors Gregory Carmichael and Jerald Schnoor will speak at a virtual event on Thursday, April 29 from 4-5 pm as part of the Hawkeyes Give Back events. Carmichael and Schnoor will speak on their current efforts to combat climate change. 
Carmichael is a professor of chemical and biochemical engineering at UI. He has done intense research on air quality along with its environmental impacts. His research includes the “development of comprehensive air quality models and their application to regional and international air pollution problems”.
Schoor is a professor of civil and environmental engineering, as well as occupational and environmental health at the UI. His other environmental work includes hydroscience research and climate advocacy. ....
