Kathmandu [Nepal], May 20 (ANI): In a major blow to KP Sharma Oli-led administration, the Supreme Court on Thursday annulled the re-appointment of seven ministers in the Prime Minister s cabinet.
A single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana delivered the verdict, terming the move of PM Oli to continue seven ministers (former Maoist Center leaders) as ministers to be against the constitution.
CJ Rana maintained that the re-appointment of ministers who are no longer members of either of the house has failed to follow Article 78 of the constitution. The article in the Constitution states that a person who is not a member of federal parliament can be minister for only six months. ....

This turned out to be a bad day for Ram Bahadur Thapa, a former Maoist leader who has recently joined the ruling CPN-UML.
Hours after he lost the position of the Minister for Home Affairs due to a Supreme Court order, Thapa lost his effort to secure a National Assembly seat.
In the election held on Thursday, he lost the battle to the opposition alliance’s Khim Lal Devkota, according to the results announced in the late afternoon.
Devkota secured 5,088 votes against 4,014 of Thapa.
The UML apparently had a majority in the electorate comprising of Provincial Assembly members and chiefs and deputies of the local governments of the Bagmati province. However, he could not win the poll as the voters of the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of the party voted against him. ....

Bagmati Province Maoists issue whip to vote for Devkota in NA by-election
KATHMANDU: Bagmati Province Maoist Center has issued a whip to vote for National Assembly (NA) candidate Khim Lal Devkota.
Maoist Center Bagmati Deputy In-charge Hit Man Shakya, Province Chairman Narayan Dahal and parliamentary party (PP) leader Shalikram Jammarkattel issued a joint statement Monday urging voters to cast their ballot to Devkota.
It is the duty of supporters of federalism to cast their vote for Devkota, who is an expert on federal structure. It added that another candidate Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, who belonged to the party before defecting to the CPN-UML, had worked against federal Nepal and the party. ....
