WASHINGTON The Japanese government will consider whether to issue a state of emergency for Osaka Prefecture after judging the effects of two weeks of quasi-emergency measures currently in place, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga stated on April 16, during his official visit to the U.S. capital.
Speaking on what was the morning of April 17 in Japan, Suga told reporters, Regarding Osaka, it hasn t yet been two weeks since quasi-emergency measures were started. We will make a decision after looking at conditions after that. ....

Police in Nagoya are looking for a man who stabbed a Thai woman in her 40s in her apartment on Thursday.
According to police, the woman was attacked at around 2:25 p.m. in her apartment on the second floor of the residence in Kita Ward, Sankei Shimbun reported. The woman staggered outside her apartment into the corridor. A passerby who heard a scream, found the woman collapsed, and called 119.
Police said the woman was stabbed six times in the lower abdomen. She was taken to hospital where doctors said Friday her wounds was serious but her life was not in danger. ....

A 10-year-old boy was hit and killed by a train in Tokyo on Thursday night.
According to police, the incident occurred on the JR Utsunomiya Line between Oku and Akabane stations in Kita Ward at around 8:30 p.m., Fuji TV reported. The driver of the train was quoted by police as saying he suddenly saw a boy walking on the tracks but couldn’t stop in time.
Police said the boy, who lived in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, was seen on surveillance camera footage boarding a train at the station nearest his home about two hours before the incident. ....
