For Carl James, global head of fixed income at Pictet Asset Management, the pull and promise of desktop application interoperability seemed blindingly obvious. A little over a year ago, he made the first move to bring interop into the fold, as he sought to simplify cumbersome cross-application workflows.
James runs a team of 17 traders across four desks at the buy-side arm of Swiss bank Pictet Group. It was around the end of 2019 that he and David Harvey, head of trading technology at Pictet ....

Questions for Green Township officials | News, Sports, Jobs

To the editor:
I wonder which of our Green Township officials suggested the township help cover the legal fees for Diane Less in reference to the proposed bike trail.
It stands to reason when Green Township receives an invoice from Atty. Carl James, who is also Less’ attorney, will cover legal expenses on the proposed bike trail. Less has been fighting this proposal for the last few months.
The Green Township trustees have always had good legal advice from the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office at no cost to the township. Now we need outside legal advice?
Also the zoning board and the trustees hurriedly approved a zone change that affected the proposed bike trail in the Calla area. The problem with the above action is they neglected to follow the explicit procedures set forth in the Ohio Revised Code. I do not think this zone change would stand in a court of law. ....

COVID-19 shows the cracks in public education – here's how to repair them

Is the answer to create an emergency ministry of education housed in Ottawa? Unequivocally, no.
As I document in my book, Canada stands alone globally as a country without a national department of education and this should continue. Elementary and secondary education is one of the few areas that Ottawa has steered clear from, and this has been to Canada’s advantage.
However, there are practical steps that should be taken towards improving our educational systems.
As some researchers have argued, collecting identity-based data would help to better identify and address barriers and problems faced by specific groups of students. For example, data collection in Toronto revealed achievement gaps between students based on race and income in pubic schools. ....

Why it matters to show diversity in children's books, especially at Christmas

TORONTO
Plenty of families this December will be flipping through “T’was the Night Before Christmas, or “A Christmas Carol.” They’re often considered required seasonal entertainment, like “Home Alone” or “Die Hard.”
But two authors of colour are urging parents and children to remember to snuggle up and also read books where the main characters aren’t just white, but also Black, such as in “Grace at Christmas;” Latinx, such as in “Too Many Tamales” and “N is for Navidad;” Asian, such as in “Yoon and the Christmas Mitten;” or South Asian, such as in “The Night the Reindeer Saved Christmas” written by British South Asian author Raj Kaur Khaira. ....
