Justification for the Buckeyes
Are there people asking, Should Ohio State even be here? Not in the wake of their 49-28 win over a very good Clemson team in the national semi-final. But the Big Ten broke its own rules by letting the team into its own championship game. The Buckeyes played just five regular season games, but it was Michigan that canceled the season finale, not the Buckeyes.
Fields is hurting - maybe
What was extremely impressive about
Justin Fields was that he threw six TD passes. That was part of the onslaught against Clemson. And in the middle of all that, he took a terrific hit from James Skalski of the Tigers, who got thrown out of the game for it. That injury, to his rib cage, still looms over the festivities. He ll play, but he s got to be careful here. OSU has CJ Stroud as a backup, and he s got a lot of promise.

Ohio State center Josh Myers said if freshman Paris Johnson does not someday win the Outland Trophy as the nation s best lineman then he screwed something up.

Which is fine, because if everything had gone according to plan, Johnson would not have played at all in that College Football Playoff semifinal. After starting left guard Harry Miller missed the game due to coronavirus, and replacement left guard Matthew Jones had to leave the game with an injury, the Buckeyes needed someone to play left guard.

Wommack’s defense held the Buckeyes scoreless in the last 28 minutes of the game, forced three Fields interceptions and sacked the quarterback five times.
“Unfortunately, there were eight other sacks where we had him truly wrapped up, and Justin Fields got away from us,” he said. “That’s the challenge when you play a dynamic player like Justin Fields that can do so much.”
