LEED is a green building certification program used around the world to promote the design and construction of green buildings and neighborhoods. Should Racine end up being certified, âit will join the more than 120 cities and communities that have already achieved LEED certification,â according to the city, with a goal of achieving certification by March 31, 2022. âLEED for Cities helps local leaders create responsible, sustainable and specific plans for natural systems, energy, water, waste, transportation and many other factors that contribute to quality of life,â Mahesh Ramanujam, USGBC president and CEO, said in a statement. âThese 15 local governments are committed to finding solutions for health, sustainable and high performing, and using LEED as a tool to ensure they are on a path of continuous improvement. Council will examine a motion later this month to extend the Patio Program to assist local businesses to mitigate the financial impacts of the pandemic. As part of the program, council is being asked to waive annual and application fees for the 2021 season. “Last year the city saw a total of 38 temporary patios which was up from 3 in 2019,” indicated Waterfront District BIA Coordinator Kara Pratt. “The COVID-19 mitigation worked, but I also think that the quick pivoting from the city and our businesses was a big help.” ....
