Oklahoma Hall Of Fame Announces 2021 Inductees

One of the most prestigious honors for an Oklahoman is to be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma Hall of Fame announced the 94th class during a luncheon held at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum.
They 2021 Oklahoma Hall of Fame honorees are Stanley L. Evans, Scott Hendricks, Hannibal B. Johnson, Yvonne Kauger, Paula Marshall, Harvey Pratt, Jim Stovall, and Roscoe Dunjee. 
“It really was started to honor Oklahoma’s best and brightest and promote educational opportunities throughout the state,” explained Shannon L. Rich, president and CEO of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. 
These accomplished Oklahomans will join the 714 individuals who have been inducted since 1928. ....

Merkt named Director of the South Dakota Art Museum
Donna Merkt, who is currently the director of museum experience at Oklahoma City’s Gaylord-Pickens Museum and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, has been named the director of the South Dakota Art Museum. She will begin her new position June 1.
Newswise Donna Merkt, who is currently the director of museum experience at Oklahoma City’s Gaylord-Pickens Museum and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, has been named the director of the South Dakota Art Museum following a national search. Merkt replaces Lynn Verschoor, who retired after 20 years in the position.
 “Donna’s experience and record of success made her a very strong candidate for the position,” said SDSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dennis Hedge. “The South Dakota Art Museum is critical not only to our university and local community, but also to the state. Last week, I was finally able to attend a meet-and-greet with artists dg smalling and Nicole Moan for their striking joint exhibit of his paintings and her mixed-media corsets at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. The exhibit ends Thursday, but if you have a chance before then, drop by and see their colorful works exploring contemporary female warriors.
Called “The Visage of Modern Matriarchy,” the exhibit started with smalling’s stylized female Native American warriors painted with acrylic on birch panels. Moan’s corsets complement the paintings and offer commentary, such as her corset the “Trail of Broken Treaties,” which includes cloth depicting the words of actual treaties.
