Second half real estate and mobile home taxes are due this month for Washington County property owners. Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett informs the public that property taxes must be paid by March 31st to avoid penalty. On April 1st a 1.5% late fee will be attached per month, rounded to the nearest whole dollar with a $1 minimum. In light of the pandemic and in order to reduce wait times, Garrett strongly discourages in-person payments at the treasurer’s office. Payments can be mailed to the treasurer at P.O. Box 889 in Washington, submitted at the drop box located at the courthouse west entrance, or paid online at iowatreasurers.org. Remaining unpaid taxes on May 31st will be advertised as delinquent and those unpaid on June 21st will be offered at the annual tax sale.
