Lawsuit between Carpenter Co. and foam maker’s former president dismissed May 6, 2021 Carpenter Co., a Henrico-based industrial foam maker with annual sales of more than $1 billion, has its headquarters at 5016 Monument Ave. ( BizSense file) Avoiding a jury trial that had been set for later this year, a dispute between one of Richmond’s largest privately-held companies and its former president and COO has been resolved. The $18 million wrongful termination and defamation lawsuit filed by Michael Lowery against his former employer, Henrico-based industrial foam maker Carpenter Co., was dismissed in recent weeks. Henrico County Circuit Court records show the two sides “compromised” and resolved the case with prejudice. No other terms or details were included in the March 31 dismissal filing. ....
News File Photo Lora Greene ATLANTA Alpena attorney Lora Greene will preside over the Montmorency County probate court, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced today. Filling a vacancy left by retiring Judge Benjamin Bolser, Greene will fill a partial term as probate judge for the county, until Jan. 1, 2023. To serve the remainder of Bolser’s term, through 2024, Greene would have to run for reelection in November 2022. Greene, an Atlanta resident, owns a private practice in Alpena and serves as public administrator for Alpena County. Alpena County Circuit Court cases over which Bolser presided in the past year may be reassigned to Greene, but that determination will be made by the State Court Administrative Office, according to Judge Ed Black of the 26th Circuit Court. ....

By Rob Sussman Apr 27, 2021 4:58 PM GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) Brown County’s sales tax, which has been used to fund projects like the Resch Expo, will be under the microscope of the state Supreme Court this year. The court has agreed to hear the legal challenge against the tax brought by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty. That group argues that the sales tax is being used illegally as sales tax dollars can only be used to reduce the property tax levy. “Unfortunately Brown County is not using its sales tax to directly reduce the property tax levy,” said Deputy Counsel Anthony LoCoco. “It’s using it to fund $147 million worth of brand new spending.” ....
