Maryland women facing felony drug charges 18 months after traffic stop

Two Maryland residents are facing felony drug charges a year and a half after being stopped by a State Highway Patrol trooper on Interstate 70 in Guernsey County.
Allison Hoyt, 22, faces one count of possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, while Caroline S. Spillane, 22, is charged with one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, as the result of bills of information filed Wednesday in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court.
The bills of information against the Bethesda residents were filed by prosecutors nine days after they dismissed identical charges filed in the Cambridge Municipal Court on Feb. 8. ....

The City of Cambridge recently conducted its first-ever joint swearing-in ceremony for two new police officers and a city firefighter in Council Chambers downtown.
While not new to the profession, former Byesville Police Chief Jason May and former Guernsey County Sheriff s Lt. Curtis Braniger took the oath as the city s newest police officers, while Cody Cole was sworn-in as the newest firefighter.
This is another exciting day for the City of Cambridge, said Police Chief Mark DeLancey. To bring this amount of experience and training is huge for the department and the city. ....

Stevens pleads guilty to amended sexual battery charge in local court

A Cambridge resident facing a felony rape charge entered a negotiated plea to a lesser sex offense Tuesday in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court.
Derrick L. Stevens, 26, plead guilty to one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony, after the first-degree felony indictment previously returned against him by a grand jury was amended by prosecutors.
Defense attorney Jack Blakeslee did not object to the amendment and Stevens will be sentenced on March 18.
According to court records, Stevens was indicted last May for the alleged offense more than a year earlier on May 4, 2019.
A pre-sentence investigation report was ordered by the court prior to the sentencing hearing. Bond for Stevens was continued at $5,000, as previously posted, and personal recognizance. ....
