Three men from Slovakia have been remanded in custody after they were charged with kidnapping and holding a fellow national against his will. Peter Tupta, 49, Anton Triscik, 47 and Adam Mazurkovic, 22, were charged with kidnap and extortion, illegal arrest and slightly injuring their victim. Police said that last Wednesday, the 30 year old victim had been approached by 3 persons in Triq is-Salib, Mellieha and later bundled into a car, where his hands were bound. He was driven to Aharax tat Tunnara in Mellieha and tied to a tree, while being punched and threatened with a knife After some time the victim was untied and taken to a Sliema hotel where he was held against his will through the night. The next morning, the victim was going to be transported somewhere else, when he managed to escape and call for help, while being restrained by the three men. Passers-by called the police and officers from the RIU apprehended the three men. ....

Marc Luigi Alwan, 22, who has no fixed place of residence, had been accused of stealing a Mercedes car and a Ford Transit van from Zebbug, Gozo and Kercem, respectively, during the night between 24 and 25 June 2020. The owner of the Mercedes had called the police in the early hours of the morning on 25 June last year to report that it had been stolen. During that same night, a security officer at a facility in Ghajnsielem had tipped off the police that he had just seen Alwan carrying a black car key and that the man had left the scene in a Transit van. ....

Miriam Pace’s death had caused public uproar after construction works adjacent to her home led to the collapse of her home in Ħamrun. Every month since then, Carmel Pace has been taking to social media on a monthly basis to post tributes to his deceased wife as well as to question what authorities have done to remedy the situation. “My dear, we’ve begun a new year. An apartment where a man was found murdered and wrapped in plastic bags had its apertures sealed from the inside with tape, a court heard on Wednesday. Police inspector Hubert Cini said that victim Victor McKeon was found in a bathroom which was locked and had a towel blocking the bottom part of its door. Despite the apparent attempt to conceal the smell, it was the foul stench of a decomposing body that compelled neighbours to call the police. Details from the murder investigation emerged during the compilation of evidence against Samir Almiri, 35. He stands charged with murdering McKeon, his flatmate, inside the Santa Luċija apartment where they lived on March 17. ....
