The boys played an important role in rescuing a 10-year-old girl from the bottom of the Whakatāne Aquatic Centre s outdoor pool last month after her hip-length hair became caught in a grate, the Whakatane Beacon reported. ....

The fintech firm today said it had raised a further $250m in a round led by venture capital firm Greenspring Associates. New investors such as Morgan Stanley’s investment arm Counterpoint Global, SBI Investment and Creditease Fintech Investment Fund also contributed to the funding. Photo / Geoff Sloan Other Police stopped 14 motorists for using their phones and seven for not wearing seat belts in just one hour near a Christchurch intersection this morning. The police check point was set up on Lincoln Rd near the intersection with Blenheim Rd in Addington from 8am to 9am on Friday. Acting Sergeant James McClurg said police are setting up one or two traffic stops a day across Christchurch in a bid to catch motorists breaking the rules. ....

Babin Institute of Fire Training on Friday to become official Lafayette firefighters. The recruits went through sixteen weeks of classroom instruction, hands-on training and physical fitness to reach this milestone. The 104th Firefighter Recruit Graduation Ceremony was held at 9:00 am at the Lafayette Fire Training Center on N. Dugas Road. The Lafayette Fire Department says that the training required of the firefighters was very different from past years. Recruits learned the principles of fire behavior, fire chemistry, structural design, water application, firefighting tactics, search and rescue, EMS, hose lays, and more, according to the department. ....
