Colne s Funky Gifts had fears it would not make it to its birthday as the pandemic bit but two government business grants passported by Pendle Council kept the business going. And a new click and collect service on top of their existing online operation also helped. Funky Gifts of Colne is able to look forward to a decade in business, courtesy of two Government funded business grants. Set up by married couple Becca and Anne Barker on June 12 2011, the business is based in the former Yorkshire Bank building on Market Street. ....
It involves reprofiling an embankment but care will be taken not to disturb otters in the area. The Canal and River Trust has applied to Pendle Council for planning permission for the works at Barrowford Reservoir after a 2017 safety inspection. They involve the re-profiling and stabilisation of the embankment to allow the water level to be reduced. A Design and Access Statement with the application say: The reservoir is believed to have been constructed circa 1885. This document seeks planning permission for the re-profiling and stabilisation of the downstream reservoir embankment to allow a reduced water level at Barrowford Reservoir, Colne Road. ....
BUILDERS have won their bid to call a development of seven new homes and a masonic hall in Barnoldswick after the Victorian vicarage that originally stood on the site. The development, off Skipton Road, which is still under construction, will be called ‘Kirklands’ after the vicarage that later became a doctors surgery and finally a masonic hall before being demolished last year to make way for the new development. Some Barnoldswick councillors wanted to name the development after the Rev Richard Milner, who was the vicar of the town from 1836 until his death in 1870 and who lived in the ‘old vicarage’; but the developers opposed the choice because of the shared name with former Barnoldswick councillor, Richard Milner, who was convicted of fraud in 2016. ....

Polling stations are open until 10pm VOTERS have until 10pm this evening (Thursday) to take part in Craven District Council and North Yorkshire County Council by-elections. Also taking place is the North Yorkshire police, fire and crime commissioner election and some parish council elections. By-elections are taking place in the Craven District Council seats of Barden Fell and Penyghent, and in the Ribblesdale division of North Yorkshire County Council. Normal elections to both councils have been suspended because of the Government consultation into local government reorganisation. All-out Pendle Council elections, as well as Lancashire County Council and police and crime commissioner elections, are taking place as normal, as the area is not undergoing local government reorganisation. ....
