Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on the Freedom of Information, Hon. Cornelius Nnaji has said that only 73 of the over 900 public institutions in the country complied with the provisions of the Freedom of Information, FOI Act on the disclosure of public information for 2020.
Nnaji who spoke at the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Freedom of Information Act in Abuja on Friday disclosed that the Official Secrets Act (OSA) of 1962 was acting against the implementation of the FOIA, saying it dominated the thinking and practice in the public service. ....

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Freedom of Information (FOIA), Rep. Cornelius Nnaji on Friday expressed deep concern over the lukewarm attitudes of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs of the Federal Government on the compliance with the provisions of the Freedom Of Information Act on the disclosure of Information and warned against its consequences.
Speaking at the 10th-anniversary celebration of the coming into effect of the Freedom of Information Act, in Abuja, Rep Nnaji lamented that “only 73 of the over 900 public institutions in the country are complying with the provision of the Act.”
The lawmaker also lamented that the Official Secrets Act (OSA) of 1962 had continued to impede the implementation of the FOIA as it had continued to dominate the thinking and practice within the public service. ....
