The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court which had initiated suo motu proceedings on a letter written to the High Court Registry by a woman seeking financial assistance, closed the petition on Monday, taking cognisance of the fact that relief was provided to her.
A Division Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and S. Ananthi closed the petition filed in 2018. The woman from Kanniyakumari district wrote a letter to the High Court seeking financial help so that she could provide medical treatment to her mother.
She had said that her mother was in a state of coma since 2000. During childbirth, the woman’s mother was administered local anaesthesia and it had pushed her to the current state, the woman said. ....

INDORE: After 44 days behind bars, an MBA student of Indore and Mumbaiker Edwin Anthony co-accused in the Munawar Faruqui case walked out of Indore central jail on Saturday evening, bewildered by the media attention. They seemed unaware of the controversy that has erupted over their arrest. On being told that it was being covered by international media as well, they were surprised and asked, “What are they writing about?”
As with Munawar, their release too was cloaked in suspense as it wasn’t clear if a holiday at the high court registry on Saturday would keep them in prison until Monday. Unlike Munawar, however, they were let out of the main gate. ....

‘FIRs can be registered in all police stations and transferred to SIT’
The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to probe exclusively complaints lodged by motor insurance companies and others regarding numerous claims made before tribunals across the State using fake documents and insurance policies.
Justice N. Anand Venkatesh insisted that experts in solving cyber crime must be included in the SIT since many false claims were being made on the basis of policies supposedly taken online. He made it clear that First Information Reports could be registered at police stations across the State and then transferred to the SIT for investigation. ....
