Schools continue to teach online, amid the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier in the week, an agreement was announced with the school district to reopen the city’s public schools. The agreement allows a return to classrooms once the city reaches red tier, the second most restrictive level of California’s reopening blueprint, if vaccinations against the coronavirus are made available to school staff. If the city progresses to the orange tier, a less restrictive category with “moderate” virus ....

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finally issued guidelines last week on how to reopen schools safely. But some Bay Area health experts are not sure that what the federal agency is recommending makes sense or that it has students’ mental health in mind.
The CDC on Friday outlined its much-anticipated guidance for returning for K-12 students to in-person instruction in the coming year. It recommends handwashing, disinfection of school facilities, diagnostic testing and contact tracing to identify infections and separate infected people from others in a school. ....

UAE- Covid-19: Hospital support staff, unsung heroes in pandemic fight


(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Amid the Covid-19 outbreak, a lot of recognition went to the doctors and nurses for their noble efforts.
It was a stressful time for those who work as support staff too lab technicians, medical coders, insurance coordinators, receptionists, cashiers and janitors who were as important to keep the healthcare system functioning as the doctors and nurses.
For many of them, Covid-19 changed roles and brought in additional responsibility. I took on the extra responsibility of managing Covid testing for people going back to their home country on repatriation flights. I also carried out duties as a receptionist inside covid testing tents during staff shortages. I had to be courageous as I was coming into contact with a lot of people during this time, but I knew my duty was to help people first, said Marife Olarte, a health checkup executive in Medcare Hospital Al Safa. ....
