From Mirror staff reports JOHNSTOWN Para-Coat Technologies Inc. of Johnstown, a specialty engineered coatings provider who works with the military, medical, aerospace and automotive industries, has acquired the assets of the R.D. Dragomir Co. in Santa Ana, Calif. Para-Coat Technologies began working with Richard and Melinda Dragomir at the onset of the company in 2010. The R.D. Dragomir Co. was established in 1996 to build custom systems for the parylene industry. It was established when the R.D. Mathis Co. allowed Dragomir to take over the custom equipment and they would continue on with their main business in refractory metals. The R.D. Mathis Co. started building parylene equipment in the mid-1970s. Richard Dragomir was in charge of the equipment division which designed and built Parylene Systems exclusively for Union Carbide, the original parylene provider. ....
From Mirror staff reports PATTON A quick response from first responders and swift efforts from the homeowner helped extinguish a Monday fire and save a resident’s home. Firefighters received a dispatch about 2 a.m. Monday for a reported house fire on the 600 block of Lang Avenue. Upon arriving on scene, Patton Fire Chief Pat Woods said the fire engulfed the resident’s front porch. Woods said prior to the remainder of first responders arriving on scene, the homeowner deployed two fire extinguishers to mitigate the spread of flames. Had the homeowner not used the fire extinguisher, Woods said the blaze could have quickly spread throughout the home. ....
From Mirror staff reports The Altoona Area High School Music Department will host two spring concerts, one this week and another next week. The string, vocal and jazz ensembles will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday outdoors on the patio in front of the new AAHS B Building. This will be the school’s first outdoor concert. Audience members should bring their own chairs for seating. At 7 p.m. May 13 in the school’s new auditorium, the music department will host a performance by the orchestra, concert choir, concert band and wind ensemble. This will be the first concert in the new auditorium. ....
