A New York state assembly bill from 2015 that was drafted after a nurse with Ebola refused to quarantine during the outbreak will be brought to the assembly’s Health Committee Wednesday in regard to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Written by Assemblyman Nick Perry (D-Brooklyn), Assembly bill A416 says “such person or group of persons shall be detained in a medical facility or other appropriate facility or premises designated by the Governor…”
“Such person” refers to an individual who has tested positive for the applicable disease or virus during a declared health emergency and refuses to follow quarantine or other state-protocols and therefore poses a risk to public safety.
