× Doug O Kane analyses Barnsley s 2-2 draw with Cardiff City in which the Reds lost a 2-0 lead.
‘SORRY’ REFEREE MADE VITAL ERRORS, BUT REDS ALSO AT FAULT Referee Andy Woolmer took charge of Barnsley’s 2016 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory at Wembley, which almost 30,000 Reds attended. Nearly five years on, in a behind-closed-doors game, he infuriated the Oakwell club’s supporters watching from home as well as the players and staff in the ground with a poor performance. Woolmer ruled out a perfectly good Reds goal in the seventh minute, judging that Cauley Woodrow had fouled Alex Smithies when actually the Barnsley striker had been pushed into the goalkeeper by Cardiff defender Aden Flint. ....
JOSHUA King netted his first goals of the season to help Cherries see off a stubborn Oldham Athletic and progress into the FA Cup fourth round. The League Two side had the better of the first half and went in level after Dylan Bahamboula’s penalty cancelled out a deflected David Brooks strike. Cherries improved markedly after the restart, taking the lead through Rodrigo Riquelme before King nodded in, netting for the first time since July, ending a 13-game drought for club and country. King then struck again in the closing stages to seal a 4-1 victory. Jason Tindall’s men will find out their next opponents of the competition in Monday’s draw. ....
Andy Woolmer CHARLIE Austin made a dream second debut on Tuesday night by scoring the opener in QPR’s well-deserved victory at Luton Town. In true Charlie-Austin fashion he pounced from six yards with 39 minutes on the clock at Kenilworth Road to give Rangers the lead in Bedfordshire. His night’s work was over just before the hour mark and his replacement, Macauley Bonne, made the result safe in stoppage time by converting Albert Adomah’s low cross. The victory – which the R’s were well worthy of – secured their fifth victory of the campaign and lifts them five points above the Championship’s relegation zone. ....
Lambert: If You Have a Good Week in the Championship You Start to Move Places Friday, 21st Dec 2018 10:10 Town take on Sheffield United on Saturday looking for their second home win in eight days as they enter the busy Christmas period. The bottom-of-the-table Blues beat Wigan 1-0 last week to record their first Portman Road victory since April and only their second of the season anywhere. The win, their third at home during 2018, reduced the distance to safety to five points plus goal difference. As they go into the first of four Championship games in 11 days, manager Paul Lambert says that the mood at the club is positive with everyone believing Town’s fortunes are beginning to change. ....
