About 51,000 jobs were lost in the Algerian market during 2020 due to the closure of factories after the imposition of coronavirus restrictions and due to political factors, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security announced yesterday.

Algeria Press Service quoted the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Al-Hashemi Jaaboub, saying that 51,000 jobs were lost last year after car parts and home appliance manufacturers were forced to close last year. ....

Algerian authorities on March 13 threatened to withdraw for good the media accreditation of international television broadcaster France 24, alleging “blatant bias” in its coverage of the country’s pro-democracy protest movement.
“A final warning before the permanent withdrawal of accreditation was sent to France 24,” a ministry statement said.
“The bias of France 24 in the coverage of the Friday [March 12] marches is blatant, going so far as to resort, without restraint, to archival images . . . to help anti-national remnants consisting of reactionary or separatist organisations,” the communications ministry alleged. ....

The Criminal Court of the Algerian capital on Friday sentenced a former assistant to the director-general of national security for the murder of his chief in 2010, reported
Algeria Press Service.
The Supreme Court had ordered a retrial after accepting the death sentence s cassation appeal on 27 February, 2017, against Shoaib Oltash, accused of killing former Director-General of National Security Colonel Ali Tounsi in his office on 25 February, 2010.
The trial took place on Thursday, where the public prosecutor requested the confirmation of the death sentence for premeditated murder . ....
