PATTONVILLE â Prairiland ISD trustees declared unopposed incumbents Jerrod Bankhead and Ryan Gordon winners of the upcoming board of trustees election, and cancelled the May 1 vote at a meeting this week. The board also made masks optional for all students and staff after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott repealed his early mask mandate and opened businesses 100% effective Wednesday. âWe realize that there are still some concerns about this, but in the end it was decided to no longer mandate masks,â Superintendent Jeff Ballard said. âIf we see a rise in positive cases and quarantines, we can change back to wearing masks.â Ballard said other safety protocols remain in place relating to personal hygiene and the frequent disinfection of buildings and buses. ....

On Tuesday morning, Comal Independent School District trustees will meet to approve winter weather class waivers as the first students return to Specht Elementary School, flooded by burst water pipes a few weeks ago. âThe whole front office was flooded along with several classrooms,â Steve Stanford, the districtâs communications director said  of the damage at the school, which will welcome back kindergartners and first-grade students. âWe were able to mitigate damages enough to bring some of those young kids back on Tuesday.â Comal ISDâs School Operations group posted photographs from Specht Elementary School on Twitter over the weekend.
