Skimpy Day (and, Pentax Lenses) Today s that day I warned you about.cardiologist this morning and eye doctor this afternoon! In different cities (towns?). So TOP will be a little skimpy today. I m already a little late. But, in the meantime, does anyone even know of a comprehensive list of the lenses Pentax makes and sells new now, and the cameras they fit and work with? I tried to disentangle a list from various sources and I think I ve failed so far. I m not talking about the vast sprawling mess of all the historical lenses, which would require a Pentaxian version of the indefatigable Erwin Puts to catalogue. Just the ones you can buy new for new cameras. I think it s at least a challenge to make sense of it all. Assuming it can be done. ....
Srsly? The New Pentax I have to admit I was shocked when I found out the price of the new Pentax. For those of you not following along with DSLR news (more and more people, lately), Pentax has introduced a newly designed camera that unfortunately has an iteration naming convention because of where it falls in the lineup. And an awkward iteration it is the K-3 Mark III, or K-3 III. I gather that should be pronounced kay-three-three. Pretty soon Porsche will get to the 911th version of the 911, I guess. I would love there to be a Porsche 911 Mark CMXI. (That s the roman numeral for 911 as you ve probably guessed.) ....

Erwin was perhaps the greatest paragon of his type: the independent superfan of a camera brand or system. A great aficionado of the Leica marque, he worked tirelessly and performed truly Protean feats both to learn about the focus of his passion and to generously share what he knew with others. A precursor of this type of passionate enthusiast was Ernst Wildi, who for many years was an independent expert and booster of Hasselblad. On the modern Internet our friend Thom Hogan has similar expertise with Nikon, although he is as much a gadfly critic as a fan of that company. The late Herbert (Burt) Keppler of ....
