Visitor numbers to Australiaâs capital city CBD-based local government areas fell off a cliff in April 2020. They are recovering, albeit slowly.

Australians who grew up in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s will no doubt recall the sense of excitement that accompanied a trip to the CBD for new clothes and shoes, afternoon tea in the department store, or the chance to hang out and run amok with friends.
The CBD was the place to see. And, the place to be seen. An adventure playground for professionals and public servants; and, a rite of passage for young suburbanites. It offered a multitude of career prospects. It was home to a cornucopia of architectural, cultural and visual spectacles. It was a retail oasis with all manner of shops that catered for all tastes.
