The double-digit growth registered by non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) during the second and third quarters of 2020-21 amid the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic reflects the resilience of these entities, an RBI article said. The article is prepared by Nandini Jayakumar, K M Neelima, and Gopal Prasad, from the Department of Economic and Policy Research under the guidance of Ashok Sahoo, Adviser. Farmers of Kujang and Erasama blocks in Jagatsinghpur district and Mahakalapada and Rajnagar blocks in Kendrapada district have grown betel leaves over 1,500 acres this year. “We used to supply betel leaves to Mumbai, Surat, New Delhi, Pune and other cities by train. Now we are struggling to do so due to the lockdowns in Maharashtra, Gujarat and New Delhi. We are losing out as it is our peak harvesting season,” said Ashok Sahoo, a betel farmer of Gobindapur village in Jagatsinghpur district. ....

Acute shortage of stamp papers in Bhubaneswar Bhubaneswar: Common people in the city have been put to untold suffering due to a massive shortage of non-judicial stamp papers. Stamp papers are an essential document with varied monetary values that are required to execute various legal deeds like lease agreements, rent agreements, buying and selling of properties, financial agreements, power of attorney, affidavits, articles of association and memorandum of association, among others. However, the city has been witnessing an acute shortage of these papers, especially of lower denominations starting from Rs 2 to Rs 50.
