Following breaking news from gaithersburg maryland where police are searching for three armed men. Were told the suspect stole weapons before they left or they fled. Fox5s mel i wa Melanie Alnwicks us live with the latest. Reporter good morning steve and allison. Still no information from police in terms of was this person targeted or was this completely random. But it was definitely a very scary situation here at the gaithersburg station apartments overnight last night. It happened about 11 30 and the Victim Told Police that he work, there was a knock on his door t he looked outside and he saw a man who looked like he was in distress so the victim opened the door and then three men burst inside. They all had handguns and they demanded property. The victim said take what you want. They took off with the victims wallet, a laptop, cell phone and two guns, a long gun and a handgun. Now, we dont know exactly what type of what model of weapons those are at this point but were working to confirm that because there were earlier reports it could have been an ar15. Now, no injuries in this. That is the good news. However, still some very dangerous guys out on the street right now. Lets show you their descriptions according to Montgomery County police, one is a black male 6 feet 2inches tall with dark skin. A short haircut and what they describe as a day old beard. The second suspect is a hispanic male and they called it a chinstrap beard so i guess thats something thin somn underneath his chin. The third suspect we dont have any physical description of other wearing dark clothing. Now, here is the vehicle that you want to be on the lookout for. It is a 2004 to 2006 police style White Ford Crown vic with tinted windows and a spotlight. Sort of like what yu would see on a Police Vehicle or a taxicab, that sort of chrome light on the side of the car. One more thing. Very distin distinctive. Take a look at the license plate. The words maryland proud ignore those because thats just the example that is on the mva web site. Its got that maryland flag along the bottom, thats the important thing you need to look for so if you see that car with the maryland flag, please call Montgomery County police or the city of gaithersburg police. Also developing this morning in firefighters worked to put out flames. This is at a hotel in jessup. Crews responded to the red roof inn on washington boulevard just after midnight. That fire was under control in about 10 minutes. Were also told there were no injuries. That investigation is ongoing. Investigators will resume their search today for the remains of a d. C. Woman who went missing back in 2009. Earlier this year pamela butlers boyfriend Jose Rodriguez cruz admitted to killing her. As part of a plea deal he agreed to tell detectives where he buried butler and this morning at 10 00 a. M. A small portion of the 95 express lanes in Stafford County will be closed while Police Search for butlers remains so you wont be able to access the express lanes at garrisonville road for several hours. Talk a lot about the pending snow. The threat of weekend weather has road crews out and about crews treating the roads trying to get a jump on whatever snow heads our way. They actually hit this part of the beltway last night vdot did. Theyre working kind of around the rush hours getting ahead of this Winter Weather advisory which takes effect at midnight tonight until 4 oclock tomorrow in the district. And basically vdot is saying you can expect some snow, slippery Road Conditions and so theyre getting ahead of it. Here on the major roadways like the beltway but also some of the secondary roads. And clearly as we always say, the ramps and bridges those surfaces that tend to freeze first are also being treated. Vdot says, you know, around the different rush hours, if you see their trucks give them a little bit of room. Theyre going to be working, you know, throughout the rest two things of advice for you guys. If you have to be out tomorrow and theres going to be snow on the road, gas up and go slow. The two pieces of advice. And right now, you do see the road surfaces are treated. Conditions are absolutely fine now. This afternoons rush hour could be a little different, though, guys. The big question two Big Questions obviously everybody wants to know how much snow were going to get. Thats question number one. Question number two has it been mild enough that if it does snow the roads should be okay . Certainly the major roadways. I dont think well have big problems on the beltway or 95. But. Ground is not frozen solid at this point. Right. As we get into the secondary roads i think thats where well have more challenges. If the snow can be heavy enough it can sort of overcome the fact that it doesnt have temperatures cold enough at the surface to have it stick but that takes some time. This is not going to be a major event but it will many cases well have our first inch of snow of the year. All right. That would be nice. Yeah, and the timing couldnt be better i mean as far as the weekend. A practice storm, this is a good one. Right. But do recall we only got about 3inches of snow last year. In toto. In total. Real. And parts of the area could do 3inches of snow by tomorrow afternoon. Okay. Im enthused every time we say this. I know. Yeah. Bob mentioned the Winter Weather advisory. There you go. That issued about an hour ago. Includes d. C. Baltimore all the counties in and along 95 and Southern Maryland and i think Southern Maryland south. East as you get a little closer to the ocean there will be a sweet spot there where youll likely see the most snow. Well talk accumulations in a couple minutes. Atlanta expecting an inch of snow and we, too, will get a couple or potentially a couple of inches of snow around here late tonight and early tomorrow. Right now unfortunately we have a crash. New hampshire avenue and ednor road caution there blocking the right shoulder. Thats not the only problem. 29 colesville road southbound at timber wood avenue a crash blocking the right lane. Looks to be cleared now but we have that residual slow down past New Hampshire avenue toward the beltway. Give yourself about 15 extra minutes. Outer loop top side of the beltway jams up with about a 30 minute delay. 27 minute total right now 95 to the 270 spur. Earlier crash after georgia of a cleared. As we look at the outer loop youre looking great coming up toward 50 from that point to bw parkway. Inner loop jams through oxon hill. 270 has been really pleasant this morning. I dont want to jinx us. 70 to 12116 minute trip and then as you can see through gaithersburg into rockville seeing a lot of green. 270 much quieter so if youre heading down to the beltway, youre in pretty good shape there. Now keep in mind we have those typical delays on 295. Kenilworth avenue from the Maryland Line down to the 11th street bridge, its a 13 minute trip. 11 Miles Per Hour average. Ill metro is on time except for the red line. Fingers crossed were starting to get a break in traffic rather than what weve been seeing all week guys. Now six major fires burning the newest in san diego county. Its ripped through a Retirement Community burned two people and killed horses at a racing facility. Ventura area teams are still working to contain the largest fire in the state. Since monday the thomas fire is so b burn until christmas. Some good news. This morning in Los Angeles County fire crews are reporting some progress. Some evacuees were even allowed to return home last night. Harassment claims led to another resignation in congress. Republican representative trent franks. This came hours after al franken was forced to give up his seat. Our holly morris joins us now live from the news room with the latest. Holly. Reporter list just keeps going right. Arizona congressman trent franks says hes resigning. Arizonas trent franks has been in congress for almost 15 years. A career that came to a crashing end yesterday when he announced he was resigning effective early next year. Hes been accused he says of discussing pregnancy and surrogacy issue with his staff conversations that led to a complaint. In a statement franks said he became insensitive as to how the discussion of intensely personal topic might affect others. Its not clear what, if any, other factors came into play, but House Speaker paul ryan wasted little time asking franks to step down on a day when another resignation was dominating the headlines. I will be resigning as a member of the United States senate. Reporter minnesota senator al franken announced he was leaving after at least eight women came forward complaining of inappropriate behavior. He used the floor to deny the allegations and took a shot at the president. There is some irony in the fact that i am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of Sexual Assault sits in the oval office. Reporter the House Ethics Committee meanwhile is ramping up its investigation into texas republican congressman Blake Farenthold who faces harassment allegations. One of which appear to have led to an 84,000 payout. He all be resolved. And next week we will find out whether Alabama Republican Roy Moore will be joining the senate. If he wins a special election on tuesday, gop Senate Leaders will have to decide how to deal with the numerous allegations that moore now faces. And that alabama race is really coming down to the wire. The real clear politics average gives moore an edge but hes just a couple of points up over his challenger democrat doug jones. Steve. Working against the snow temperatures have been a little marginal. I think at particularly it may not stick to roadways and that kind of thing as, you know, temperatures around here really have not been terribly cold for the last couple weeks. Snow right now reaching down into parts of louisiana, mississippi, alabama, you can see it down there, winter storm warnings for that part of the world. Were under a Winter Weather advisory which goes into effect after midnight. Youll have no issues whatsoever today. This will mostly move in after midnight early tomorrow morning. I think most of the region wakes up with snow tomorrow morning or a wintry mix if youre off to the south and east and will be with us for the first half of our saturday. Things should taper off in the afternoon. How much snow . I was just about to tweet this tucker fox5 if you want to hit my twitter account or my facebook account, ill put it on there, too, but looks like the heaviest of the snow will be off to the south and east where well be looking at more of three to 6 inches. Just so you know, we are about a hundred yards away from this. We are standing have positioned us so that we are safe and im standing in front of our suv here but this is an ongoing situation. Theres a woman inside this silver car where they have a huge spotlight on, shes sitting in the drivers seat and she is threatening to take her own life. She is armed with a gun. We understand there are no hostages. However, just minutes ago, the s. W. A. T. Team went in and was able to pull out the passenger in the tractortrailer thats behind her vehicle. So, we saw a passenger from the tractortrailer getting out of that side with the s. W. A. T. Team, so he is safe. Whats interesting, and sort of unsettling to me is that this walmart is a 24 hour walmart and it is still opened. I spoke to an associate who just came by to talk to me and she said we got the announcement around 5 oclock this morning that this was going on and its business as usual inside this walmart here a happened a little after 5 oclock but of Course Police and Public Information officer remaining tight lipped about what is actually happening. But we can tell you i see multiple officers surrounding the vehicle in different parts of this Shopping Center and we saw some additional officers pulling up just now and theyre gearing up, but theres an officer to right in front of the vehicle where he has his gun drawn. This happened once before, so lets see if if they have negotiated with her and shes able to get out safely but again, this happened just before you guys came to us live. Two more lawmakers go down announcing resignation over harassment claims. Republican arizona representative trent franks the latest to step down just hours after minnesota democratic senator al franken said hes giving up his seat joining us now with a look at what happens next kate martel political reporter with the hill g to see you, kate. I think al franken wasnt so much a surprise yesterday. This appears to now have yet another ball rolling. Exactly. This is Snowball Effect that weve been seeing in congress. That just in a master three days we lost three members of the congress, and were hearing new reporting that behind the scenes senator al franken had been hearing pressure from colleagues to resign, but we saw yesterday when an eighth accuser came out a Snowball Effect that 30 Democratic Senators came out against him and told him that he should resign. And then he followed up didnt that yesterday. So its interesting to see how this is being affected. I think the next step that well be looking at is cements. Were hearing a big effort from congress that right now taxpayers will pay any cements that go between a staff and a congress member. And yes, it does kind of cause controversy but i think also interesting to note, yes, it does kind of not smell taxpayers pay. If not they would require victims to have to chase down these Congress Members into their home district goss through local and state proceedings and then have to go through Debt Collection proceedings which may often come out dry. Lets go back to the resignation, though, by senator franken. Did it on the senate floor, also, put it on the record that it doesnt escape him that two very highranking republicans including the president have been accused of Sexual Assault rreally. Is what he said. How far does that go and why would he do that politically . Politically looking at what he said on the senate floor that was a very defiant speech. It was not the remorseful apologetic speech that you would expect from a senator that was resigning. But it does have this effect that, hey, were looking at roy moore is going to be is going to be, um, in a special election in four days and President Trump is going to be campaigning not now in alabama border in pensacola, florida. But does it have these political effects like you were saying, that, yes, the president may not be seeing the ramifications of this access Hollywood Tape an kuser that is have come out but the story may not necessarily be over. Now, some experts have been talking to what would, n would move the ball forward would be to have some of these accusers file lawsuits. Whether or not that will actually play out is kind of the big question, but thats what al franken was hoping to hear. He wants to know this was not necessarily a one off it. He even said that some of these accusations arent true, and want to do bring the other party into it. Surely will be fascinate to go see where this goes from here with al franken such a high profile position position wise to step down now and of course follow up by trent franks announcement yesterday nothing has been proven there but hes saying hes going to step away as well. And now were hearing behind the scenes there could be dozens of others whos stories may soon be told and may come out. I mean this is a huge percentage of congress that could be so lets just say if roy moore gets elected which its looking that he would at this point obviously what has happened in the past allegedly may not keep him from getting elected what if something comes out after hes sitting on the hill. Weve had precedent thats been set with al franken and others stepping down. At what point does this end and is there really that much happening were not aware of . Thats whats going on behind the scenes that we are hearing that this could be such a Snowball Effect like you said. If roy moore ends up winning, takes the Alabama Senate seat, al franken had resigned, i think what were hearing right now from republicans and from some lawmakers that, yes, the alabama voters no, and yes, they are using this information to really to come up with who they want to represent them, that should we be able to remove them from office. But this really comes back to the ethics committee. They have mounting number of investigations and those can be fairly excruciating they can be long, they can be grueling process cease come up with an effect and may not remove them from office, but, yes, you can expect to see with roy moore if he wins there will be investigations and he will not have a fun time in the senate if he does win. Lets talk about in the seconds we have together the balance of power here and you hate to bring politics into this because were talking were talking bad behavior, and that we have seen as bipartisan here, but what does happen to the power shift now next minnesotas governor will appoint someone but then in the general election. What does it mean for democrat to be out and also conyers as well . Yeah. So lets start with the senate. Were looking at now, um, the governor will be, um, putting in replace many looking like it will be Deputy Governor whos a democrat. Minnesota is a Democratic State but it is interesting to note that President Trump only won by a few Percentage Points in 2016. So thats not necessarily a safe seat for democrats as it once was. Now, if were looking at the house side, yes, representative conyers who is a democrat but we also lot of representative franks whose a republican. Both of these seats i think are, that is correct, sir both going to be interesting elections. It matters more in the senate i think especially now that if we look at the general election lets say republican won and roy moore has just won the special election, the balance of power will be shifting. But, um, its going to be interesting to see. We will definitely have a democrat for the next year but 2018 is every more important i know thats what you keep here politically. Its all going to be back down to 2018. I hate to think it from that standpoint. Me too. If youre in a assaulter or abuser it doesnt make any difference whatsoever. Right. Kate, thanks for joining us. The suspects took the victims wallet, laptop, cell phone, two guns long gun an handgun although police have not confirmed the models to us we had early indications that one of those may have been an ar rival. No injuries in this case, but again a very serious situation heres a look at the suspect descriptions as given to the police department. One suspect a black males 6 feet 2inches tall, short hair an day old pan. Second suspect hispanic man with a chinstrap beard. No physical description on the third suspect other than to say that he was wearing dark clothing. Heres a description of the vehicle that they were driving. It looks like a police car. A white one. 2004 to 2006 Ford Crown Vic with tinted windows an spotlight on the side of similar to a police car or taxi cab. One more distinctive thing. Pretty good contrast for them and allegations against donald trump that hes ignored. I could easily see this becoming an issue in the 2018 mid terms. I think one interesting way to look at this to see which way it goes or follow it, look, you have people like Roy Moore Supporter whos say, look, if the people of alabama want him there, thats on the people of alabama. But then you have the al frankens who the people of minnesota didnt vote to have him removed. So its going to be interesting to see how that theory maintains. Sure, the people could elect someone, but its not going to be those same voter whos take them out of congress or ask that they leave. Thats right. Also i contrast that here in congress with franken youve got, what, over 30 members almost all of the democrats in the senate demanding that franken leave, and you have President Trump going down to pensacola, florida, and which is right, across the border from alabama and endorsing roy moore. Its filled with local charm, off and on in a and flora, and it just has distinctive washington quality and filled with these characters right here that are just clearly american and represent our capitol city. I always say the nutcracker feels to me like the kick off to the Holiday Season. You have to start the Holiday Season with the nutcracker. You have self shows running all through the month. Yes, we have performances from now until Christmas Eve. We have two performances Christmas Eve and we have we just love to welcome the community to see us, and we have many opportunities for local celebrities like yourself to join us on this stage.
