Reporter because of the bloody scene inside the bus the recovery driver had to wear a hazmat outfit to take it away. [ sirens ] inside this ambulance the victim, a metro bus driver cut in the face by a passenger at the station. His injury is described as a nonlife threatening laceration. This is how sources tell the story. They say the suspect was getting on to a cross town bus headed for brooklyn in northeast. As he got on he got into a fare dispute with the driver. They say the suspect had a knife in his hand and then he hit the driver in the head and then slashed his face. Another driver saw the attack and flagged down some d. C. Cops and they moved in to keep the suspect on the scene. That suspect described as a 65yearold man later charged by metro police with assault with a deadly weapon. And that suspect is expected to be officially charged in court tomorrow. Thanks, pat. Earlier this year the news 4 iteam took alook at assaults on metro bus drivers and found at least 170 drivers had been attacked on the job since 2011. The attacks range from being pepper sprayed to punched. We obtained Security Camera footage of some attacks. Metro Transit Police say arguments over fare payments often trigger the assaults. Metro is working to install shields to protect drivers, planning to install 100 a year until the entire fleet has them. A woman attacked in the middle of the day. Police are looking for a man who they say raped her a couple of blocks from a maryland interstate. The Victim Told Police she was in a wooded area when a man attacked her from behind. She ran outside to see this and in that downstairs room that was torn apart by the car a family of three had been sleeping, a couple and their 14yearold daughter. Reporter remarkably no one was seriously injured although the teenager reportedly suffered a broken arm. She thanked god because there was no death. Reporter the tow truck driver had the challenge of removing the car. It was wild. I have never seen anything like it before. The car was all the way in the back of the house. Reporter the driver of the car initially ran off but police found him and arrested him. He faces multiple charges. Now as you can see from the sign on the door the house has been condemned because of the damage. Get this, this is not the first, but the second time a car has hit this house since she moved in. Luckily the last time the car only came part way into the house. In manassas, virginia, news 4. Fair fks county Police Released a sketch of a suspect accused of attacking a runner on the rocky run trail. She was able to get away and the suspect took off on a bicycle. Police will be canvassing the area this week. A man who spent nearly 30 years in prison trying to prove his innocence is now free. His name is kevin martin. He was convicted back in the early 80s of killing a woman in southeast washington. He spent 26 years in jail paroled in 2009. A recent review by prosecutors revealed that dna evidence at the crime scene has cleared martin of any involvement in the murder. This morning he broke down in tears outside d. C. Superior court. Martin is 50 years old now. He said today at last he is free. The count down is on until riders will finally be able to use the silver line. Metro gave us the time lapsed video showing what the new commute will look like. They are doing test runs all week. The silver line doesnt officially open until saturday but already causing big changes and not just for commuters. And the challenge for the people at the mall now will be keeping commuters out of these lots. Think youre just going to drive to tysons mall, park in the lot and get on the train . Think again. The work is started to prevent these from turning into make shift commuter lots. Key cards will be required to get in during nonmall hours. The regulars who use the lots are taking the measures in stride. I dont think it is a problem. Most malls have a gate. You think you will be able to come in and go with no problem . I think so. It went up in flames as it hit power lines. People nearby watched the scene unfold in horror not knowing what was going to happen to the people on board. Everyone on the balloon survived the crash. Some of them were severely burned. The accident comes two months after a similar incident killed three people in virginia.
