And North Carolina officials are keeping a close eye on the storm already, and what it can bring to our state. We have coverage tonight starting with mike maze. There are a couple of things that have changed. Forward motion and direction changed just since this afternoon. Its a slow mover. The up level winds are light where it is moving north northeast about 8 Miles Per Hour, but its picking up. Earlier todays it was a 6 Miles Per Hour, so its picking up a bit. Once it gets north of the islands it should move quickly past cuba. These are the numbers as of 8 00 in the National Hurricane center. We might have an update before 10 00, and heres the storm located now, top winds still north northeast at Miles Per Hour 8 Miles Per Hour, and heres the intensity, not changing since the 5 00 advisory, but we should have the new advisory by 11 00, and its more of a westward track. In the full forecast well talk about whats guiding the storm, why the track is fact west, and look at the wind field and who will see the strongest hurricaneforce winds between hay did i and cuba haiti and cuba, and the potential impacts down the road for north mike, thank you. As we watch the storm, Relief Organization rest positioning themselves Relief Organizations are positioning themselves to respond. And whats the plan of action right now . Well, the red cross as well as local organizations are really just getting into position right now, and were actually in a very unique position keeping a watchful eye on haiti and of course being concerned for them, but also our neighbors a very close eye on our neighbors here in North Carolina if needed. And theyre carolina beaching a very, very keeping a very, very watchful eye on the coastal communities. He says theyve been planning and really having meetings over the last week. You heard him say 120 hours out, since last tuesday theyve been doing that planning. As for the haiti organization, they could be planning a trip within the next few days, so hes certainly on edge and concerned for his family and his community. Thank you. The governor declared a state of emergency today for the eastern twothirds of our state. Were not really sure if its going to make land fall, but i can tell you that it will create issues for North Carolina even if it hits us with a glancing blow because as the governor said were certainly saturated in eastern North Carolina with all the recent rain weve had. Now is the time to make sure you have your emergency package available with supplies so you arent waiting until the last second to go get batteries. The governor is also asking people to please keep up in the latest weather update asks were be ready to evacuate flood prone areas if the storm dumps down a lot of rain. Now lets transition into the tropics. Well look at the upper level matthew. Right now its atrophy of low pressure and a a trough of low pressure, and a ridge in the atlantic. Once matthew gets past jamaica and cuba and haiti, the upper level winds guide it more to the north, but the problem is this ridge is really going to build to the west, and in fact build across North Carolina and the guiding winds should take it into florida, or at least close to it. Theres the possibility it could get close to florida and maybe even make land fall field, Tropical Storm force winds, these are Storm Force Winds in orange between 55 and 63, and Hurricane Force winds here, so over time, the Hurricane Force winds lash haiti and make it across cuba, 2 00 a. M. Wednesday, top winds at 130, and then taking off north of cuba wednesday afternoon, top winds 125 Miles Per Hour. These are some of the forecast models, and with the ridge models are following suit to the trash, carrying it closer to florida hugging the southeast coast, and another trough of low pressure by the end of the week will deliver a cold front and should keep it hugging the coast and then moving out, and before we go to the forecast, i want to look at the probability of Tropical Storm force winds in the coming days. High probabilities, even in florida where theres a 60 percent chance of Tropical Storm force winds greater than 39 Miles Per Hour. By the time we get to the end of the forecast here, only about a 20 pe its likely to rise through times. So overnight, partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, 61 in raleigh. A man charged with shooting and killing a Shelby Police officer faces five felony charges here in North Carolina. The man island last month, four days after the shooting of the officers. He was shot in the line of duty while looking for a subject wanted for an outstanding warrant. The rowan county sheriff laid out details in the death of Erica Parsons. She was last seen when she was 13 before her remains were father over the summer whos in prison for fraud. Sandy parsons helped lead investigators to his remains on her property he owns in chesterfield county, south carolina. We believe through this investigation that Erica Parsons was deceased long before she was even reported missing. Unfortunately we never had a chance to find her alive, which was our goal. Partly cloudy skies to begin the day, mostly cloudy down east, and i talked about the ridging of High Pressure down the east coast, and with the northwest flow wednesday would likely be overcast to mostly cloudy, and wednesday we start off with quite a bit of cloud cover, and here comes matthew in the picture during the 15, 20 Miles Per Hour, and during the day thursday quite ray bit of cloud a bit of cloud cover and spotty rain, and then matthew is just off the coast of West Palm Beach moving north northwest, and the model ends 2 00 thursday afternoon, so once it gets past cuba the Forward Motion increase, and by friday closer to us, and saturday passing by the way things look right now.
